First Anniversary Commemoration

It was 30th August 2018, on the first anniversary of Mum’s passing away.  Dad invited about 20 friends who lived not too far away to drop in for a couple of hours to remember her.  We bought a lot of flowers to remember her by and did some light snack food, there was a great sound of warm chatter that filled the house.  Mum would have liked that.

People who came to the anniversary (in rough smudged-paint style)

Dad simply asked everyone soon after they had all arrived, to stand up and have 2 minute’s silence.  In this time, we all did our own prayer or thoughts as we felt right in our own minds and hearts.  It was tender, beautiful, and simple.  Dad liked to keep things simple, uncluttered, deeply sincere, giving room for everyone to be the way they felt right for themselves.  The only thing missing was, of course, Mum’s loud voice, gently assertive presence, caring warmth and chatter.  Although something of it seemed to come back sometimes.  Hopefully it will always resonate in some way for us all.
